It might be time to remove all subsidies. There are many foreigners (including digital nomads) who have made or are making Malaysia their base. Some of these people pay no taxes here yet enjoy the government subsidies on goods such as petrol, rice and sugar and the, generally, much lower cost of living here. Sweden, for example, imposes a 50% tax on their bank deposits. The government needs to consider doing something similar.
Countries need to take all necessary measures towards self-sustaincy in basic food security. The world is facing serious threats to peace and a world war breaking out within the next few years is a possibility. If this happens, supply chains will be disrupted, of which food will be one of them. Agricultural production of basic food such as rice, vegetables and fruits should be increased to be self-sufficient.
