The US depends on supplies from the rest of the world for it to function. If the rest of the world cuts off trade with the US, its economy will crash within a few months. If Trump wants to raise tariffs, let him go ahead. It is US importers/consumers who will have to absorb them. This will means lower sales so set a higher price if needed. Don't negotiate with an irrational person who is trying to bully the rest of the world. Instead, work towards reducing trade with the US and increasing trade with the rest of the world.
IMHO, all other countries should curtail trade with Trump's US. Instead, expand tariff-free trade with each other. As a Japanese official has said, what Trump is doing is attempting to extort other countries. We should not bow to his wishes. Doing so will just further encourage him. Ordinary Americans are fighting to overthrow him. So let's help them by resisting him. Time and again, Trump has been proven to be a liar and an untrustworthy person.
