KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 4): A total of 375 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy has been channelled to Singapore through Energy Exchange Malaysia (Enegem) as of October 2025, involving the implementation of a pilot phase scheduled to end in December 2026.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation said Enegem is a platform introduced in 2023 under cross-border electricity sales for renewable energy to enable green electricity to be sold to neighbouring countries such as Singapore through a bidding method.

It said the platform was initially implemented in a pilot phase with 50 megawatts offered to bidders from Singapore, to enable the government to assess the feasibility and improvements for Enegem.

“The establishment of Enegem is a significant national achievement in strengthening Malaysia’s position as a renewable energy leader in Southeast Asia through a transparent bidding mechanism.

“Enegem improvements are being made to ensure that this platform is always progressive which enables Malaysia to become a regional cross-border green electricity trading hub,” said the ministry on the Parliament portal on Thursday in reply to a question from Datuk Ahmad Amzad Mohamed @ Hashim (Perikatan Nasional-Kuala Terengganu) who wanted to know the results of Enegem’s achievements and to what extent this platform will position Malaysia as a regional renewable energy hub within the Asean Power Grid framework.

The ministry said Enegem also provides a strong institutional and market foundation to connect Malaysia's renewable energy supply with the demands of neighbouring countries.

It said that in line with efforts to expand interconnection infrastructure, strengthen renewable energy certification and increase the development of clean energy projects, Malaysia has great potential to emerge as a regional renewable energy hub under the Asean Power Grid framework.
