KUALA LUMPUR (April 19): UEM Sunrise Bhd has launched The Beat 2.0, an extension of The Beat retail hub at its Kiara Bay development in Kepong, during a groundbreaking ceremony held at the Kiara Bay sales gallery on Friday. The Beat 2.0 measures 2.6-acres and will comprise a net lease area (NLA) of 73,566 square feet (sq ft), according to a press statement on Friday.

UEM Sunrise also welcomed Harvey Norman Malaysia as an anchor tenant of The Beat 2.0 during the event, along with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the collaboration.

UEM Sunrise chief executive officer (CEO) Sufian Abdullah said, “We are proud to embark on this collaboration with Harvey Norman to promote The Beat 2.0 as an innovative urban development, which seamlessly integrates living, leisure and retail elements”.

The statement added that the Beat 2.0 leverages on the area’s expanding activity and recent property launches, such as Residensi Zig.

Launched in April 2022, The Beat occupies a 12.54-acre site and comprises 69,112 sq ft of NLA. It features a sales gallery, 21 lakefront retail lots, a food & beverage (F&B) establishment and an open carpark. The Beat is fully taken up, with Village Grocer as its anchor tenant, occupying 64% of the total NLA.

UEM Sunrise has also appointed BM Green Energy Sdn Bhd — a solar photovoltaic (PV) investor registered under the Sustainable Energy Development Authority of Malaysia (Seda) — through an MOU signing at the same event, to install, operate and maintain the rooftop solar photovoltaic energy system at The Beat and The Beat 2.0.

“Switching to renewable energy sources exemplifies UEM Sunrise’s dedication towards sustainable energy consumption. On top of savings in utility bills, collaborating with BM Green Energy to power The Beat with solar energy will put us on the right track towards achieving the carbon neutrality target by 2050,” said Sufian.

This initiative aligns with UEM Sunrise’s sustainability agenda to reduce carbon footprint, improve energy efficiency and contribute to a greener environment at Kiara Bay, the statement added.
