KUALA LUMPUR: Property developer Titijaya Land Bhd has appointed former Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Nga as its new chairman effective from Feb 23.

Mahadi will be replacing Tengku Datuk Seri Uzir Ubaidillah, who retired as independent non-executive chairman at the end of his one-year term on November 28, 2023.

Titijaya said Mahadi's extensive experience in urban and rural planning makes him a valuable addition to the leadership team.

Mahadi graduated with a bachelor in urban and regional planning (honours) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 1983 and later obtained a masters in urban development from University of Strathclyde, Glasgow in 1990.

Mahadi started his 40-year career with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in April 1983 as a town planner and has vast experience in urban and rural planning, before rising up the ranks to eventually become executive director (planning) until his retirement in 2019.

Mahadi came out of his retirement in 2020 to take on the mantle of mayor of the country's capital city for two years and six months.

He was appointed as the 13th Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, serving from October 1, 2020 until March 31, 2023.

"With 40 years of experience in this industry, Mahadi has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing our company and the broader marketplace.

"His strategic vision and leadership acumen will be instrumental in guiding Titijaya through its next phase of growth and innovation," Titijaya added. Ends
