KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 13): Wanita Umno vice-chief Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim has been appointed the new chairman of KUB Malaysia Bhd following the resignation of newly minted Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani from the post.

Norliza was redesignated as chairman from her previous position as a director of KUB, which is principally involved in the trading of liquefied petroleum gas. The group also provides information, communications and technology services, besides engineering services to the power sectors, and property management services.

Norliza is also presently the chairman of Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN), according to KUB's filing with Bursa Malaysia on Wednesday.

She was previously the chairman of UDA Holdings Bhd from Nov 2021 to March 2023, as well as a director at Boustead Heavy Industries Corp Bhd from September 2020 to January 2023.

She also served as a Dewan Negara senator from 2011 to 2017.

Johari has also relinquished his chairmanship at CI Holdings Bhd on Tuesday following his ministerial appointment in the Cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Johari is taking over the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities from Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who has now been given a new portfolio — the Ministry of Energy Transition and Public Utilities.

Through his investment vehicle — JAG Capital Holdings Bhd — Johari holds 32.96% in both CI Holdings and KUB. He also owns a 13.85% stake in MyNews Holdings Bhd.

Shares in KUB dipped two sen or 3.33% to close at 58 sen on Wednesday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM320.1 million.
