PUTRAJAYA (Dec 8): Datuk Raja Rozela Raja Toran, the former lead prosecutor in Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's corruption cases, was among nine persons appointed as High Court judicial commissioners (JCs) on Friday.

Raja Rozela, 58, a former deputy head of the prosecution division of the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC), received the appointment letter from Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, and took her oath in front of her and Chief Judge of Malaya Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidin Md Diah.

Raja Rozela was the lead prosecutor in both of Ahmad Zahid's corruption cases — in Kuala Lumpur and Shah Alam — before leaving the AGC last month.

She was also the lead prosecutor against Yim Pek Ha, the employer who abused Indonesian maid Nirmala Bonat.

Seven of the newly appointed JCs will serve in Peninsular Malaysia, while two will serve in Sabah and Sarawak.

Besides Raja Rozela, the other JCs for the peninsula included: former lawyer Arziah Mohamed Apandi, 48; former senior federal counsel at the AGC and former lawyer Datuk Mohd Hazizah Kassim, 51; lawyer and former Atlan Holdings Bhd and Naluri Bhd executive director Kan Weng Hin; former housing tribunal president Gan Techiong, 58; lawyer Suriyati Hashimah Mohd Hashim, 51; and lawyer Mohd Rosli Yusoff, 51.

They took their oath before Zabidin.

Meanwhile, a former privatisation unit head of the AGC, Maslinda @ Linda Mohd Ainal, and lawyer Saiful Azian Mokhtar, 51, will serve in the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak. They took their oath before Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sebli.

Also present at the event were Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Abang Iskandar Abang Hashim, Attorney General Datuk Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh, former Chief Justice Tun Md Raus Sharif, and former AG Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali.
