KUALA LUMPUR (May 10): Furniture and rubberwood components maker SYF Resources Bhd has appointed Pahang princess Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala Tengku Hajjah Aishah Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, 66, as its new independent and non-executive director, effective Wednesday (May 10).

Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala also holds the directorship in three public limited companies, namely as independent non-executive chairman at both Insas Bhd (since November 1986) and Divfex Bhd (since October 2018) and as non-independent and non-executive chairman of Inari Amertron Bhd (since November 2022), according to SYF Resources’ filing. Tengku Puteri Seri Kemala has also been a director of TAS Industries Sdn Bhd, an investment holding and property development company in Kuala Lumpur, since 1990.

Also joining SYF Resources as an independent and non-executive director is Datuk Yong Lei Choo, 62. Yong was with the police force for nearly 36 years before retiring in October 2021 as the Kuala Lumpur deputy chief police officer. Yong holds directorships in four other listed companies, namely LBS Bina Group Bhd, Red Ideas Holdings Bhd, Fiamma Holdings Bhd and Vestland Bhd.

SYF also named Datuk Tan Choon Peow, 52, as a new executive director, replacing Ng Wei Ping, 33, who has been redesignated as its non-independent and non-executive director.

“He (Tan) has more than 20 years of experience in accounting and corporate finance and was involved in various restructuring, initial public offering, fundraising, and merger and acquisition,” the group said.

A chartered accountant by training, Tan is currently the executive director for corporate finance of M&A Securities Sdn Bhd, a post he has held since March 2013. He is also a member of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants and Certified Practising Accountant of Australia, both since 1996.

The group also redesignated Datuk Seri Ng Ah Chai, 61, as its non-independent and non-executive director, from his position as group managing director. Ah Chai, a substantial shareholder of SYF with a direct stake of 5.94%, is also Wei Ping's father.

SYF Resources shares closed half a sen or 1.59% higher at 32 sen on Wednesday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM180.75 million.
