October 2025, it was reported that an IT solutions company, NexG Berhad (formerly Datasonic Group Berhad), secured a substantial government contract worth RM732.72 million to supply MyKad to the National Registration Department (JPN) in Malaysia.
This development garnered attention because it occurred shortly after Datuk Seri Farhash Wafa Salvador, the former political secretary to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, emerged as the largest shareholder and chairman of MMAG Holdings Berhad in March 2025. NexG Berhad also became a substantial shareholder in MMAG around the same period, with plans for the companies to combine expertise in logistics and security/ID technology.
However, Farhash Wafa Salvador ceased to be a substantial shareholder and resigned as the chairman of MMAG in January 2026, stating he was "not a government contractor" and did not "do anything with government".
NexG Bhd (formerly Datasonic Group Bhd) has recently secured several major contracts from the Malaysian government, primarily from the Ministry of Home Affairs, with a combined value exceeding RM2.5 billion.
