MALAYSIA’S real estate investment trust (REIT) sector is adjusting to a new reality. The government has confirmed that the preferential 10% withholding tax on REIT distributions for most non-corporate investors will end this year.

The policy shift does not directly affect the earnings of REITs, but it changes how investors assess returns, especially foreign investors and those highly sensitive to after-tax yield.
