KUALA LUMPUR (June 28): Bursa Malaysia Bhd (KL:BURSA) has named the chief executive officer (CEO) of AEON Bank (M) Bhd Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz as its public interest director and independent non-executive director, effective July 1.

A public interest director is appointed by the Minister of Finance pursuant to Section 10(1)(a) of the Capital Markets and Services Act 2007, according to the stock exchange’s statement.

Raja Teh has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, encompassing investment, wholesale, Islamic, and digital banking. Currently, she serves as a board member of Kumpulan Wang Persaraan (Diperbadankan) (KWAP) and as a trustee of Amanah Warisan Negara.

Notably, she was the global head of Islamic markets at Bursa between 2009 and 2011, where she led the establishment of Bursa Suq Al-Sila’, the world’s first end-to-end Shariah-compliant commodity trading platform.

“We are delighted to welcome Raja Teh back to Bursa Malaysia albeit in a non-executive role as a public interest director. Her familiarity with the exchange and the capital markets will be valuable.

Raja Teh’s experience in Islamic finance and digital banking will contribute immensely in our innovation and growth pursuits as a multi-asset exchange to build a robust, vibrant and inclusive Malaysian capital market,” said Bursa chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
