MISC to develop world’s first ammonia dual-fuel ships

MISC said the signing of the contracts represents a significant step forward in the partners’ efforts to make ammonia a viable fuel for the maritime industry.

PETALING JAYA: MISC Bhd via its wholly-owned petroleum arm AET has signed contracts with a member of Petroliam Nasional Bhd, PETCO Trading Labuan Company Ltd (PTLCL), to charter the world’s first two ammonia-powered Aframax vessels to the latter.

In a statement, MISC said through these vessels, PTLCL will be able to transport its products to customers around the world while contributing to the industry decarbonisation by utilising ammonia as the cleaner alternative to conventional fuel.
