Cocoa futures surged above $10,000 per tonne, reaching their highest since June 12th, amid deteriorating prospects for supply in the key producing region of West Africa. Weather forecaster Maxar Technologies noted that dry conditions in West Africa will hurt the early development of the mid-year cocoa crop harvested in April and that the arrival of the seasonal Harmattan winds could worsen the situation.
